Netbackup 7.0 Drives Configuration in HP UX

Netbackup –HPUX - Drives are not properly detecting in netbackup for master server (bkpsrv) and media server (pmedia1).

Platform : - HPUX - VERITAS Netbackup 7.0.1

Problem Summary:

Drives are not properly detecting in netbackup for master server (bkpsrv) and media server (pmedia1).

OS version: HP-UX 11.31
NBU Version:  7.0.1

Observation: -

While running the scan command (/usr/openv/volmgr/bin/scan), bkpsrv is detecting 9 drives and pmedia1 is detecting only 7 drives (not detecting the newly replaced drive).

Activates performed:
1.     Checked the drivers from OS , drivers of all 8 drives are properly installed

#Ioscan –fnNC tape,
#scsimgr lun_map

2.     Checked the backup from OS side through tar utility and is working fine

3.     Run the command /usr/openv/volmgr/bin/tpautoconf -report_disc on both the servers

Master server has shown 1 missing path and media sever has shown one new drive in command output

4.        Checked the pass through device paths on both servers (NetBackup creates pass-through paths for all valid )

#/dev/tape paths.

NetBackup creates the paths during device discovery or when you run the /usr/openv/volmgr/bin/scan command.

Found 1 extra pass through device file in master server and the path is not crated in pmedi1 for the new drive

5.     Changed the pass through driver file configuration

Backup Server:

# rmsf  /dev/pt/pt_tape21 ( deleted the extra pass through device path)

Media Server :

 # mksf –P –C tape –I 4 (crated the pass through device file for new drive manually.)

Here 4 is the instance no. of the drive.

6. Run the scan command again. Now both servers shown 8 drives in the o/p. Configured the drives through netbackup GUI.
